Balinese calendar system of the saka and pawukon is very important in the socio-cultural life of the Balinese people who firmly hold a concept of harmonious life. The Balinese calendar system used mainly for religious, filled with an array of auspicious and holy days. You will see some anticipated events in the calendar on the following page. We will notify and invite you to any special occasions that may arise during your stay.

It is a treat to see how the village communities come together in preparation for the various events with each member contributing their fair share of time and effort.

Purnama or full moon and Tilem or new moon are when many of the temple festivals occur. These are occasions for villagers to pay tribute to the spirits and express gratitude through prayer and devotion. Its is an auspicious time for self-purification and blessing. Kajeng Keliwon is one of the most important days. It occurs when the last days of the three- and five-day weeks coincide or every 15 days. Kajeng Keliwon is an auspicious day for prayers and there are many temple anniversaries held on this day. However, this day is also dangerous because evil spirits are about. Every family makes special offerings to guard against the spirits doing any harm. On these days you will see women placing offerings on the ground outside the gates of their house compound in the late afternoons.
